Federal Judge Richard A. Posner Calls For Legalization 0
“I don’t think we should have a fraction of the drug laws that we have. I think it’s really absurd to be criminalizing possession or use or distribution of marijuana … I can’t see any difference between that and cigarettes.”
Judge Richard A. Posner, a member of the influential United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago, called for the legalization of marijuana during a lecture at Elmhurst College in Illinois. This comes from a man who is regarded as an intellectual monolith who is the most-cited judge in the United States, he is also considered a legal conservative. During his lecture, Judge Posner touched on his skepticism about drug criminalization laws as well as the huge financial burden those laws beset upon the local, state, and federal governments.
